The family of the late former Gov. Carroll Campbell will endorse Jon Huntsman for president in South Carolina later on Tuesday. Campbell, who was governor of the Palmetto State from 1987 to 1995, died in 2005. The family name, however, still remains strong and the Campbells continue to be active in South Carolina politics.

Huntsman was already endorsed by Campbell’s son Mike, who in 2008 chaired Mike Huckabee’s South Carolina primary campaign. On Tuesday Hunstman will also pick up support from the former governor’s other son, Carroll Campbell III, and former first lady Iris Campbell.

Campbell’s former chief of staff Bob McAllister will also endorse Huntsman.

“I am extremely impressed by Gov. Huntsman and his record of accomplishment in Utah,” Carroll Campbell III said in a statement. “He balanced budgets, created jobs, and passed free-market health care reform without mandates. As Gov. Huntsman travels this state and spreads his message, I am confident South Carolinians will rally around the campaign.”

Mike Campbell added, “As governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman demonstrated he is the type of problem-solver our country needs. He is the right leader for our party and our country in this important election.”
