Signaling Mitt Romney’s position as the frontrunner in the Republican race for the 2012 presidential nomination, a new ad from the Democratic National Committee attacks the former Massachusetts governor’s record on job creation.

Romney will travel to a New Hampshire auto race on Sunday, Politico reports, and the ad takes advantage of the candidate’s trip to hit Romney on his position in “the race for jobs.” (First major Democratic attack ad goes after Romney, Gingrich)

No words are spoken in the ad. Instead, text points out that Romney’s state was 47th out of 50 in job creation during his tenure as governor. A car bearing his name and the number 47 comes to a screeching, crashing halt as the ad concludes.

“In the years that Mitt Romney was Governor, Massachusetts ranked 47th out of all 50 states in job creation — and if Louisiana hadn’t been on the road to recovery from a devastating hurricane, it’s likely that Romney would finished even farther back,” said DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse.

“After failing to create jobs in Massachusetts, Mitt Romney wants to bring his brand of failed economic leadership to the rest of the country by doubling down on the failed economic policies that brought our economy to its knees.“

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, another contender for the nomination, also took a jab at his opponent Romney’s record, the Salt Lake Tribune writes.

“All you need to do is look at one’s track record while serving in an executive position,” Huntsman said. “Take our first-place position here as a state in terms of jobs created during certain periods and you can compare and contrast that with 47th, which is where Massachusetts was [when Romney was governor there]. Let the numbers be your guide.”
