In the final segment of The Daily Caller’s interview Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch about their new book “The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What’s Wrong With America,” TheDC’s senior editor Jamie Weinstein pushes the two Reason magazine editors to define what a libertarian foreign policy would look like. (You can see the first two interview segments here.)

“Foreign policy, immigration, abortion — these, like everywhere else in American political, tribal life, are disputed things among libertarians, just as they are with Democrats and Republicans, or liberals/conservatives, or whatever smaller group that you have,” explains Welch. (TheDC Interview: Reason’s Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch)

“It is on the list of bipartisan policies that both parties will totally back once they are in power is that you will always make the bar go a little bit lower of reasons to or justifications for going to war with another country,” he adds, expressing contempt for the way both Democrats and Republicans have handled foreign policy. “What Obama did with Libya was incredible. He said I am going to go to war because there might be a massacre in this city. It wasn’t even because there is a genocide happening now, there might be a massacre in this one city. He didn’t go to Congress with it. That lowers the bar even from [George W.] Bush, whose bar was helpfully lowered by Bill Clinton in Kosovo.”
