Four-time Grammy Award winner Rihanna hasn’t forgotten where she came from. The 23-year-old pop sensation traveled to her birthplace of Barbados over the weekend for the country’s Kadooment Day parade. Sporting a red bikini, feathered headdress, and lots of gold, the “Umbrella” singer appeared happy to celebrate her island roots. The A-lister’s homeland pride came through in a Sunday tweet: “My home, my country, my people….BARBADOS!!!”
Rihanna may look relaxed in Barbados party pictures, but she’s come a long way since ex-boyfriend Chris Brown allegedly brutally beat her in 2009. The female songbird has since raised awareness about abusive relationships and violence against women. Earlier this year, the Billboard Music Award winner released a reggae hit, “Man Down,” a song about a woman who shoots and kills her rapist.
