Romney: ‘Corporations are people, my friend’

Speaking at the Iowa State Fair Thursday, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney had some kind words for corporations.

“Corporations are people, my friend,” Romney said during a heated back-and-forth between heckling audience members and him. “Everything they earn ultimately goes to people.” (RELATED: August 11, 2011

Some commentators have called Romney’s statement a potential gaffe. On the other hand, Romney’s opinion happens to be shared by a majority of the Supreme Court, which ruled in the 2010 case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that corporations are entitled to the same First Amendment protections as individuals are.

    “We the CORPORATIONS  of the United States, in Order to form a more
    perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility,
    provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare,
    and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,
    do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States
    of America…”  That doesn’t sound right and their goal is not any of those from above.  Corporate Money in Politics has made a mockery of our Democracy.

    If corporations are now people then might i suggest changing the original constitution to reflect this?
    We the corporations of the united states of america demand a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations..

    Only in america could such a fraudulent cover for a corporate takeover of the nation be so easily passed through the supreme court..

    Exxon-Mobil is “just folks”, like a Mom & Pop store on Main Street (well, before it was run out of business by Wal-mart….which is also “just folks”).

    Romey has an excellent point.  Liberals love to demonize large corporation that EMPLOY tens of thousands of people.  When liberals demonize large corporations, they normally address them as person-less entities.
