Pat Robertson: Earthquake a sign of the Second Coming of Christ

Remember that earthquake? Well, it wasn’t just an earthquake. Actually, it means the Second Coming of Christ is near! Just ask the Reverend Pat Robertson.

The famous televangelist, perhaps best known for his bouts of foot-in-mouth syndrome, first floated the idea of the earthquake being a sign from God on his Wednesday broadcast of “The 700 Club.” He said the disaster “means that we’re closer to the coming of the Lord.” (Joe Biden disagrees with Pat Robertson on pot)

Robertson felt vindicated Thursday by the news that authorities had discovered cracks at the top of the Washington Monument.

“It seems to me the Washington Monument is a symbol of America’s power. It has been the symbol of our great nation. We look at the symbol and we say ‘this is one nation under God.’ Now there’s a crack in it … Is that a sign from the Lord? … You judge. It seems to me symbolic,” Robertson said.

He cited Matthew’s Gospel, which mentions an “upheaval in the earth” as a sign of the End of Days. The earthquake is just a “birth pang” of the world to come, Robertson explained.

It’s not the first time Robertson has gone all religious over a natural disaster. He said the earthquake that rocked Haiti and killed 200,000 people in 2010 was a result of a “pact to the devil,” and he suggested Hurricane Katrina was sparked by legal abortion.

Robertson prayed to God to send Hurricane Irene out to sea at the end of his Thursday broadcast. But if it hits us, it’s probably just another one of those “birth pangs.”
