In Los Angeles last week, Anti-war activist Angela Keaton spoke with The Daily Caller about the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and her views on American foreign policy.

Keaton is the director of operations and development at antiwar.com, an activist organization “devoted to the cause of non-interventionism.” Unlike overtly leftist & socialist war-opposition coalitions like ANSWER and Code Pink, Keaton’s organization has explicitly libertarian political views.

In the early 1980s, the founders of what would eventually become antiwar.com helped establish the Republican Organizing Committee (ROC) to offer the GOP a libertarian influence. Members formed the Republican Liberty Caucus in 1991, which today includes Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, and tea party favorites Sens. Rand Paul, Jim DeMint and Mike Lee, among others.

Keaton hinted at the paleoconservative influence on her anti-war website, suggesting that opposition to war on small-government and anti-socialism grounds is the “true” conservative position:

I don’t believe one can be authentically conservative and say, “but we should give more money to the defense department!” No, to me that’s just another tax–spend kind of liberal situation that goes nowhere and benefits no one, ever, except people in the government who live off that system.

Keaton earned a law degree from the University of Florida. She has served on the Libertarian National Committee and is a past executive director of the Libertarian Party of California.
