Congress considers limiting UN aid if statehood granted

WASHINGTON – A top congressman has drafted a resolution that calls on the US to withhold contributions to the UN if the international body recognizes a Palestinian state.

The measure declares that the US secretary of state should cancel American funding for the UN General Assembly if the GA “adopts a resolution in favor of recognizing a state of Palestine outside of or prior to a final status agreement negotiated between, and acceptable to, the State of Israel and the Palestinians.”

Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Middle East subcommittee, introduced the nonbinding measure on Friday and so far has no co-sponsors.

Brave man Rep. Chabot, they wanted to kill Letterman for making a joke. I imagine the ink on his fatwah is drying as we speak.

Out of all the problems with the UN “this” is the reason he wants to cut off aid?? It’s not as if we are in the majority. The majority of the world is going to support this. Are we going to cut off aid to every other country if they vote in a way that upsets Israel?? It’s obvious aid is only given to blackmail.

If there is no Palestinian state, then there is no Palestinian government that Israel is supposed to negotiate with?  Which would mean there would never be an agreement, would there?

No, there’s the Palestinian Authority, which isn’t sovereign but has authority. Israel and the Palestinians have a long history of negotiation; you should seriously make sure you have at least a little knowledge about a topic before making such a post.
