On September 11, 2001, our homeland was brutally attacked by al Qaeda terrorists. As we remember and honor those who died in the attacks, we also send our greatest sympathy to the families of the victims. Despite these horrific attacks, our country is stronger and we continue to cling to the American dream.
Let us give thanks to those in the U.S. Navy Seals who acted bravely and swiftly when fulfilling their mission to defeat the most extreme terrorist of our time, Osama bin Laden. These Navy Seal warriors risked their lives to get the job done. They are true patriots.
Let us also commemorate U.S. soldiers who have died in military service. It is the duty of our nation to honor and support our service members who have given up their lives for a greater cause than themselves.
Those who are fighting for us on the front lines — and their families here at home — deserve our utmost respect and thanks. I wholeheartedly support our troops, and I appreciate the work they’re doing around the world. As a veteran and a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I will continue to support legislation to better the health and the well-being of our service members.
Al Qaeda thrives on poverty, despair, violence and fear. The bottom line is that al Qaeda cannot afford for freedom to succeed. Conversely, we cannot afford to allow freedom to fail. The 9/11 attacks should be a solemn reminder that military decisions should be made on sound strategy, not politics.
We must never forget those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. As you remember the victims of 9/11, I encourage all of you to also commemorate the men and women who have died in military service to their country. Please also keep our active duty soldiers and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
