Obama: Small businesses could get tax relief today from bill I’ve not yet written

Obama, last night: “Pass this jobs bill — pass this jobs bill, and starting tomorrow, small businesses will get a tax cut if they hire new workers or if they raise workers’ wages.”

I spoke to Dan Pfeiffer of the White House this morning on the radio and asked him when the bill that would allegedly give small businesses a tax break would be written and arrive on the Hill. Pfeiffer said they’ll write it and send it up to the Hill “next week when they get back.”

So, he’ll gladly give you a bill Tuesday for some tax relief today. That’s not how the process generally works, and the fierce urgency of now continues to look more like the fierce urgency of next week.
