Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul responded to a series of confrontational pictures with Texas Gov. Rick Perry which surfaced after Wednesday night’s Republican debate at the Reagan library in Simi Valley, Calif.

The pictures — taken during a commercial break in the presidential debate — showed Perry grasping Paul’s wrist and strongly gesturing. They had some in the media speculating that with all the attacks Paul’s campaign has launched against the governor, Perry had perhaps given the long-time congressman an aggressive piece of his mind.

Not so, according to Paul, who added that despite their long history in Texas, the pair had never met prior to the debate.

“It is true we have never crossed paths,” he said in response to reporters’ incredulity.

Paul said he does not even remember what they discussed.

“The truth is I wish it were a much more interesting story than that, because I don’t even recall the moment that that was occurring and I don’t remember exactly what he said. We didn’t have any cross words,” he said. “So I’m sorry about that.”

Paul added that the harshest words were reserved for the actual debate.

“The most challenging words were said on stage when not only I, but others, called him on some of the programs in Texas,” he concluded.
