It might be the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, but today is also National Grandparents Day. If your grandparents are still alive, we encourage you to give them a phone call, mail them a letter, or pay them a visit. Chances are, they’d love to hear from you more often, and no, emails will not suffice.

If you’re lucky, the elderly in your family are witty, humorous, and honest when necessary. Such is the case with the grandparents in the “Wedding Crashers,” “Princess Diaries,” “The Proposal,” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

In honor of National Grandparents Day, we’ve put together a slideshow of the most memorable grandparents in movies and TV programs, so scroll through our gallery below for glimpses of the old folks who captured our interest and stole the show.
