Obama on his bill: “If you love me, help me pass this bill!”

This is just getting creepy.

Speaking in Raleigh, N.C. today, President Obama made an amorous argument for his latest legislative push. The president has been insistent that Congress “pass this bill right now” since he first described it in a speech to a joint session last Thursday. Five days after the speech, Obama produced the text of the legislation in a Rose Garden pep talk, and the White House began briefing the Hill on it this morning.

Today, insistence turned to plea as Obama told a pep-rally crowd at North Carolina State University, ”
“If you love me, you’ve got to help me pass this jobs bill.” He was responding to an audience member who yelled, “I love you, Barack!”

“If you love me, you’ll do it.” This is a new tack known informally as the Sleazy Popular Boy With Popped Collar in a Mid-80s Teen Angst Film argument. It’s more convincing when James Spader says it.
