Tragedy struck the home of “Varney & Co.” co-host Charles Payne Saturday night when a 21-year-old male died from a heroin overdose in his backyard, the Fox Business Network contributor said Sunday night.

In an appearance from the “Occupy Wall Street” protest at Zuccotti Park in New York City, Payne told Fox News Channel’s “Geraldo at Large” viewers the details of the event.

“It is absolutely amazing,” Payne said. “Me and my family are watching a movie [and] all of a sudden, someone bangs on our sliding doors. We look and it’s a kid and he looked me right in the eyes. He’s 21 years old [and] he says, ‘help,’ but I am afraid I don’t know what’s going on.”

Payne reacted by calling the police, but said it was too late to save the young man.

“We call the police, they come. He died in my backyard,” Payne said. “I live on the nicest street in a town in one of the wealthiest counties in America. You live in the same county and this is a white kid [who’s] 21 years old [and] he dies in my backyard — I never met him before — from a heroin overdose.”

Payne tied the tragic event to the “Occupy Wall Street” protests he was reporting from Sunday, saying it accentuate the uncertainty for those his age.

“I know these kids are afraid,” he continued. “I know they’re angry. I am worried what they want to tear down actually will tear down their opportunities and not make them better. And I think what happened in my backyard — which is frightening unbelievable — is the microcosm of fear and disenchantment that people have in this country.”
