We’ve commemorated 23-year-old Barbadian pop star Rihanna before, so it comes as no surprise to us that Esquire named the wildly successful recording artist the Sexiest Woman Alive in 2011. The singer had tough shoes to fill, as “Charlie’s Angels” bombshell Minka Kelly snagged the title last year, but Rihanna deserves the accolade more than anyone. She’s a beauty and a survivor, as well as an amazing dancer. In 2009, then-boyfriend Chris Brown beat her in the car, leaving her with sustained injuries, a shiner and emotional distress. Rihanna came out of the incident ahead by ditching the abusive bum, topping the Billboard charts and producing popular tunes.
