Despite news outlets devoting breathless hours of coverage to allegations that he had sexually harassed two female subordinates in the 1990s, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain hauled in approximately $250,000 in donations Monday.

The accusations were made public in a scant-on-details article published Sunday night by Politico. Cain’s two accusers were not named, nor was the specific nature of his alleged misbehavior, but it was revealed that the National Restaurant Association — which Cain led at the time — offered the women financial settlements.

“It was one of our best fundraising days ever,” Cain campaign manager Mark Block said. (RELATED: DC Exclusive interview with Mark Block [VIDEO])

In recent weeks Cain’s poll numbers skyrocketed, with several polls placing him ahead of presumptive front-runner Mitt Romney.

Several prominent conservatives have condemned the allegations. Pundit Ann Coulter claimed the article would never have been published if Cain were white;  radio host Laura Ingraham suggested an “Occupy Politico” movement in response to the news website.
