Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, handicapped the Republican 2012 field, calling the media attack against Herman Cain “very disturbing” and saying that the door is still open for another “not-Romney” candidate to emerge.
“In a few months it will take shape, and whether or not there is a constitutional conservative candidate emerges to be a direct competitor to Mitt Romney in this nomination, that’s what the conservatives want to have happen, and we’ll see if there’s a candidate who can bring that long-term challenge to Mitt Romney,” he said in a sit-down interview with TheDC’s Ginni Thomas. “And whether it’s Mitt Romney or the alternative candidate, we’ll have to see.”
