“Both parties have changed so radically. It seemed like in the last 20, 30 years, it seems like the base of both parties has changed,” Eastwood told TheDC on the red carpet Tuesday night at the Washington premiere of his new film “J. Edgar,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Eastwood, a Republican who also served as mayor of Carmel, Calif., said, “The Republicans used to be for fiscal responsibility, and then they sort of lost their way there, and the Democrats were for more the liberal side of things, and then they sort of lost their way there. I just feel that both parties sort of need to revamp back to their original roots and see what happens there.”

When asked if there are any GOP candidates he supports as a libertarian, Eastwood replied, “I just figured that [Libertarian] was sort of threading the road in between the two major ones.”
