Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid again blamed anti-tax activist Grover Norquist for preventing the super committee from reaching a deficit reduction deal, recommending that the American people “should impeach” Norquist.

Norquist is the president of Americans for Tax Reform.

“Republicans have asked that we make some structural changes to entitlement programs,” Reid told reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday. “We told them in order to do that there has to be some tax revenue in return and we would need a break from Grover Norquist.”

Reid was asked what message the American people should take away from the lack of a deficit reduction agreement as the Nov. 23 deadline approaches.

“Maybe they should impeach Grover Norquist,” Reid responded.

On numerous occasions, Reid has targeted Norquist for influencing Republicans to oppose any tax increases as part of a deficit reduction deal reached by the bipartisan super committee.

“The difficulty we find is that in every one of these discussions, Grover Norquist seems to be in the room. … He is quite sure that there will be nothing done with tax revenues,” Reid told reporters at the Capitol last week.

“It’s a shame that Grover Norquist is present in all these meetings we have. I would hope that weren’t the case. I’m hopeful that the Republicans on the super commitee will break way from this.”
