A New York Republican running for Congress says he’s ashamed that actor Alec Baldwin lives in his district and said the 30 Rock star is a “disgrace.”

The candidate, George Demos, is running to represent New York’s 1st Congressional District. He made the comments in a press release responding to Baldwin’s support of the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

“It is a disgrace that Alec Baldwin, who lives in our district, would be America’s premiere voice supporting the lunatic leftists of Occupy Wall Street,” Demos said.

On Wednesday Baldwin wrote an opinion piece for The Huffington Post titled, “What Occupy Wall Street Has Taught Me.”

“Occupy Wall Street people understand that not only are more difficult times possibly around the corner,” Baldwin wrote, “they know that the current government will likely do as it has historically done, which is to protect the rich and powerful at the expense of the long term interests of the middle class.”

Demos said Baldwin “speaks out against the very things that promote American prosperity” and “supports those who protest rather than work.”

“I am ashamed that Alec Baldwin lives in the district I wish to represent in Congress,” Demos said. “He’s a disgrace.”
