Apple is coming to the Big Apple at the end of January to make a media-related announcement which may not be related to the iPad 3 or the Apple TV, tech writers say.

“According to sources close to the situation,” reported All Things D, “Apple is planning an important — but not large-scale — event to be held in New York at the end of this month that will focus on a media-related announcement.”

According to All Things D’s sources, which went unnamed, Apple has yet to name a replacement for their former head of mobile advertising, Andy Miller, who left the company over the summer.

Both tech blogs All Things D and SlashGear speculated that the involvement of Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in the planning of the event could mean that the event would involve a major advertising or publishing announcement.

“The last time Cue was in New York for an event, by the way, was nearly a year ago, when Apple helped launch News Corp.’s online magazine, The Daily,” wrote All Things D.
