Republican presidential candidate and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is comparing herself to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Thatcher earned the nickname “the Iron Lady” because of her staunch conservatism while leading the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. The 30-second Bachmann ad doesn’t verbally mention Thatcher, but it does contain a photo of the conservative icon with on-screen text reading, “America’s ‘Iron Lady.’”

It’s unclear if Thatcher ever referred to Bachmann as “America’s ‘Iron Lady.’” Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart didn’t immediately return The Daily Caller’s requests for comment.

The ad opens with a narrator stressing Bachmann’s Iowa roots, going on to argue that she’s the only candidate who has been a “consistent conservative fighter.”

The narrator says Bachmann “fought Obamacare” and “fought increasing our debt ceiling even as other Republicans were cutting deals with Obama.”

Bachmann’s ad, only her second televised ad in Iowa this cycle, is reportedly airing on Fox and NBC affiliates in Iowa.
