The Republican National Committee (RNC) is testing its 2012 media strategy on Tuesday by rolling out a new video that uses Democrats’ and supporters’ words to contrast presidential candidate Barack Obama’s promises with his accomplishments.

The montage of black-and-white images, alarming music and Democratic talking heads begins with candidate Obama celebrating his victory in the 2008 Democratic caucus with the declaration that, “Years from now, you’ll be able to look back with pride and say that ‘this was the moment when it all began.'”

It culminates with a video taped admission in October by Obama that “I don’t think [voters] are better off than they were four years ago.”

Titled “Failed Promises: Iowa Edition,” the video is a model of the RNC’s media strategy, which will try to bypass swing voters’ empathy for Obama — and their stated dislike of attack-ads — by using critical Democrats to portray Obama as a failure.

The video, for example, includes critical comments from former President Bill Clinton, MSNBC host Chris Matthews, Democratic Rep. Peter DeFazio, Democratic firebrand Rep. Maxine Waters and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

It also features clips from Democratic-friendly media, including CBS, MNSBC and the Washington Post.

“Four years ago,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus wrote in the press release, “Barack Obama came to the state of Iowa promising ‘change we can believe in’ but after three years of unemployment above 8 percent, rising health care costs and record spending, Americans are feeling the consequences of this president’s failure to follow through on his promises. … Today, Iowa Republicans have a unique opportunity to send a resounding message to this president that his time is up.”
