UPS Posts Banner Year In ‘Volatile’ Global Economy

The upside may have been baked into the cake for United Parcel Service heading into Friday’s fourth-quarter earnings report, which would explain why the parcel shipper was little changed in pre-market trading despite the best profits in its history.

UPS earned adjusted diluted earnings per share of $4.35, after putting up $1.28 in the fourth quarter that marked an increase of 21% from a year earlier. Revenue came in at $14.2 billion, up 6% from the fourth quarter of 2010, while adjusted operating profit climbed 17% to $d 6% to $14.2 billion and adjusted operating profit climbed 17% to just over $2 billion.
