Naomi Watts is set to star as the late Diana, Princess of Wales in a new film, “Caught In Flight,” Variety reports.
Jessica Chastain, star of “The Help” and best supporting actress Oscar nominee, was in talks for the role but the Australian actress beat her out.
“It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role — Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen,” Watts said in a statement.
The film will focus on the last two years of Diana’s life, leading up to her untimely death in a car crash in a Paris tunnel. It is scheduled to begin filming later this year.
