If there is one thing you can count on in a sitcom, it is the inclusion of the zany neighbor. Usually, said neighbor remarkably enters the main character’s home even without having been given a key.
The wacky neighbor does one or more of the following: Makes himself comfortable on the main character’s couch (Kramer / Seinfeld), eats the main character’s food (Joey / Friends), doles out unsolicited advice, or interrupts an intimate moment between the main character and his girlfriend or wife (Marie Barone / Everybody Loves Raymond).
Basically, this character exists solely to annoy the main character or act as his mortal enemy (Newman / Seinfeld).
Regardless of the neighbor’s plight, the character is usually one of the best characters on the show.
