Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together — musically, at least.
Despite being the victim of a once-violent relationship with Brown in 2009, the singer has paired up with him on not one but two songs. Rihanna is featured on Brown’s remix of “Turn Up the Music,” and he sings on her sexually charged tune “Birthday Cake.” (RELATED: Full coverage of the entertainment world)
Both have shared tweets back and forth, promoting the new songs and sparking controversy among fans.
One wrote to Rihanna, “@rihanna do you really think this is the right thing to do?” Another offered, “I think you are encouraging young women to comeback to those who beat you!”
Celebrities like Miranda Lambert have also voiced their discomfort with the reunited duo.
“Not cool that we act like that didn’t happen,” Lambert wrote on Twitter the day after the Grammy performance. “He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys.”
“Gunpowder & Lead” is one of Lambert’s hit off of her 2007 album titled “Crazy-Ex Girlfriend” about a woman who prepares to shoot and kill her husband as soon as he’s released from jail.
After a three year absence from the Grammy Awards, Brown made his return this year and took home an award for the best R&B Album. Rihanna also performed and took home a trophy.
The two first collaborated musically back in 2007 on Rihanna’s remix to her mega hit single “Umbrella.”
