President Obama has “pushed the pill of dependency” instead of getting to the root of the unemployment and economic ills of the black community, Ken Blackwell said in an interview.

The former Ohio secretary of state told The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas that the president’s welfare policies could cost him support among African-Americans.

“One of the things that people miss is that the aspirations of moms and dads in the black community are very similar to the aspirations of moms and dads in the white community,” Blackwell explained. “So what has happened is that the president has really pushed the dependency pill in the African-American community.”

“Instead of getting to the root cause of the problem, he was pushing the pill of dependency,” he noted.
