California woman killed by blast from homemade cannon

A California man took the right to bear arms to a new level with a homemade cannon near in his mobile home.

Any harmless intentions he may have had exploded on Tuesday, U-T San Diego reported, when a cannonball slammed into the residence and killed a 33-year-old woman. Authorities believe she was his wife.

Sheriff’s Sergeant David Martinez said first-responders were called to a property in Potrero, Calif. at about 12:15 a.m. and found the woman dead from massive injuries.

The man, who was also hurt from the blast, told investigators he ignited a homemade cannon and it went off accidentally. He is currently being treated for his injuries. It is unknown whether or not he will be charged with a crime.

Martinez said between three and five people were in the house at the time, one of whom was a child who was not injured.

Homicide detectives and bomb squad members are handling the investigation.
