We’ve heard of passing notes in school, but this is ridiculous. A first-grader at a Chicago-area school is under federal investigation for distributing phony $100 bills.

The Abraham Lincoln Elementary School student brought a handful of fake Ben Franklins to school and passed them out to students, the Northwest Indiana Times reported.

A classmate told  school officials that the boy has a bag full of counterfeit money in a closet at home.

The school confiscated six fake bills with various serial numbers and notified the U.S. Secret Service.

The boy said he got the funny money from his grandmother, school officials told the newspaper.
