Harvey Weinstein turned down Obama’s movie idea

Not even the Commander in Chief can win over Harvey Weinstein: the notoriously ruthless movie producer says that he turned down a movie pitch from President Obama.

“The President sent me a book the other day and said ‘Why don’t you make this into a movie?’ Weinstein told the Times of London. “I can’t tell you [what it was]. It was a spy novel.”

Weinstein, who co-founded Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company, is one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood. And although he is a major donor to the president’s re-election campaign, that doesn’t mean he will buy what Obama is selling.

“I sent him an email back saying he was the most overqualified book scout I’ve ever had,” Weinstein said.

Weinstein most recently produced the award winning film, “The Artist,” which took home seven Academy Awards, including best director and best picture.
