In a quiet World Cup skiing season without a world championships or an Olympics and largely ignored by a U.S. sports audience , American Lindsey Vonn has continued her march up the ladder of the all-time mountain legends.

Vonn, 27, who triumphed famously in the Vancouver Olympics by winning the downhill with a painful shin injury, won a World Cup giant slalom race Friday in Are, Sweden, to clinch her fourth overall title with an insurmountable 554-point lead with five races left in the season.

“I’m really excited,” Vonn said in a teleconference with U.S. reporters after the awards ceremony in Are. “It’s been an incredible season.”
