Sen. Tom Coburn is a fiscal crusader.

The Oklahoma Republican has suggested a smorgasbord of cuts across the federal government. Last July, he put forward a $9 trillion deficit reduction plan. He has also issued a readable book outlining 100 examples of government waste and a report on taxpayer subsidies of the rich and famous.

A medical doctor and a small businessman, Coburn was elected to the House in 1994. He left Congress after completing three terms in 2001, but in 2004 he was elected to the U.S. Senate. Coburn says he will not seek reelection in 2016.

The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas recently talked with Coburn about Senate dysfunction, the greatest threats to America, America’s fiscal crisis and much more.
