1.) Forrest Gump meets the Jazz Singer — Tom Hanks has some explaining to do. TheDC’s David Martosko reports:

“Video footage obtained by The Daily Caller shows Hollywood screen legend Tom Hanks and Eagles musician Glenn Frey at a 2004 fundraising auction, playfully interacting with a white man dressed as an African native, complete with blackface makeup and a giant Afro wig … The video shows Montgomery in blackface, holding the stuffed animal and standing with Hanks, while Frey is heard saying into his microphone: ‘This is as close to diversity as we’ll get at St. Matthew’s.'”

This would destroy a Republican star’s career — at the very least they would have to profusely apologize and do a stint in rehab. Will the establishment media even note it with a liberal star? We shall see.

2.) Hecuva of a job, Mr. PresidentTheDC’s Mickey Kaus summarizes the WaPo report on what exactly went on behind the scenes of last summer’s debt ceiling negotiations between the White House and Republicans in Congress. Let’s just say it doesn’t make President Hope and Change look all that great:

“The Washington Post is out with a long, reported tick tock on the failed “grand bargain” deficit cutting negotiations of last summer. It’s hard to read and not reach one conclusion: Obama blew it. According to the Post,  the two sides (Obama and Boehner) were close to a deal. Then Obama foolishly trumpeted a ‘Gang of Six’ proposal that had a much higher tax number, which had the effect of making the deal look small. ** He then demanded a 50% increase ($400 billion) in new revenues. When the talks then blew up, he tried to get his old deal back, but it was too late.”

3.) Take note, Roland Martin — In a column that we very well may come to regard as both the most significant and eloquent of the year, Daily Caller fashion correspondent Roger Stone — yes, that Roger Stone — provides advice on wearing the ascot:

“There is no article of men’s clothing that can make a man look more like a douche then the ascot. There are, however, a few men who can pull it off. Context is everything … The ascot worked for gents like Leslie Howard, Ronald Coleman and Gary Cooper. It probably would not work for, say, Jesse Ventura. Wear it wrong and you look like George of the Jungle. Wear it right and you can look cool, artsy and debonair.”

Perhaps it was overstating things a tad to say that it could be the most important column of the year. We are on much safer ground to say that it will be far more significant and useful than anything Paul Krugman produces.

4.) Dear Media Matters, go to hell, sincerely Mark Levin — Radio host Mark Levin blasted Media Matters Monday for its links to Al-Jazeera and for its other indiscretions, TheDC’s Jeff Poor reports:

“Levin challenged Media Matters to take action against him for the moniker he has given the group, and said he would use a lawsuit as an opportunity to investigate the organization. ‘Hey, boys and girls at Media Matters, if you don’t like me calling you a ‘criminal front group,’ what are you going to do about it?’ Levin asked. ‘I would love nothing more than to conduct myself a full-scale discovery of your organization, your finances, your phone records, your emails, your iPods, every little device that you have there. I would love nothing more, me to depose Mr. [David] Brock, the head of your organization. I would love nothing more than to depose Eric Burns. I would love nothing more than myself to depose Mr. [MJ] Rosenberg, the whole damn bunch of you. You got it?'”

5.) Poll of the day: Americans favor Obamacare repealRasmussen Reports poll asks whether U.S voters favor the repeal of President Obama’s health care law: 56% favor, 39% oppose.

6.) BIRTHDAYS! — Roman poet Ovid turns 2055 … American poet Spike Lee turns 55 … Model Kathy Ireland turns 49.
