You can breathe easy: Animals are still safer appearing in Herman Cain’s web advertisements than they are in PETA’s care. No actual bunnies were harmed in the making of the former presidential candidate’s latest online video.
In the spot, titled “Rabbit,” a little girl lovingly puts the fuzzy animal — which she says represents “small business” — down to rest in some straw.
But the bunny’s pad becomes a launch pad as it’s thrust into the air and visibly torn apart by a blast from a hunter’s shotgun.
“This is small business under the current tax code,” the girl says, just seconds before the rabbit does its best clay-pigeon impression.
“Any questions?”
“The rabbit is fine but our current tax code is killing small business!” reads the text appearing under Cain’s YouTube video. “The current tax code allows the Government to pick winners and losers by doling out favors and dividing the country with class warfare.”
The ad, a sequel of sorts, is a plug for Cain’s SickofStimulus.com website.

The first video in the series featured the same young girl comparing the economy to a goldfish — before spilling the contents of its fishbowl and watching as it dies, gasping for air. “This is the economy on stimulus,” the girl says of the dead fish. “Any questions?”
PETA, known for its never-ending campaigns against animal cruelty, animal dyeing, animal performing, animal eating, and animal everything, had said that video was “no better than strapping a dog to the roof of your car.” That’s a thinly veiled reference to presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s infamous decision to place his dog Seamus on top of the family station wagon during a trip.
Since leaving the presidential race in December, Cain has focused on reintroducing his signature “9-9-9” tax reform plan to Americans without the trappings of a high-stakes campaign. His “Cain Solutions” organization is the messenger, and so far it has attracted more than 419,000 supporters — all human.
