In a video interview published Thursday afternoon, Time magazine editor Belinda Luscombe asked South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley a bizarre and perhaps offensive question about how much she tips certain cab drivers in New York City.

“In New York City, which you’re visiting for a couple of days, a lot of our taxi drivers are Sikhs. If you get one, are you going to give him a slightly bigger tip?” Luscombe asked Haley. (RELATED: More on S.C. Governor Nikki Haley)

Haley’s parents are Sikh immigrants from India, and her father runs a Sikh worship center in South Carolina. A good sport, Haley laughed off the question and insisted she gives “the same tip to everyone.”

The question is asked around the 5:45 mark in the video below.
