On Sean Hannity’s Tuesday radio show, Rep. Allen West addressed the mentions he has received from leading conservative figures, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, saying that he should be the Republican nominee for vice president in November.

According to West, that would be up to a higher power and his family.

“There’s no doubt that you’ve got to go to God first of all and make sure that this is something God approves of — not just man,” West said. “And then you have to speak with your family, and if all things line up properly, then you step up to do your best to serve this country at a higher level.”

West mentioned his 2007 Afghanistan deployment and how he knew then that it was the right thing to run for the U.S. House upon his return.

“When five years ago, you’re sitting in the desert in Kandahar, Afghanistan and you knew that when you left Kandahar in November 2007, you’re going to come back and you’re going to be running for Congress in 2008. Even though you fell short, you still believe that the reason why you left Kandahar was to come back and be a servant of the people in the United States Congress in the House of Representatives. So, there will be indicators that the right person is ordaining and blessing that venture, and so that’s whose voice that I will listen for, is that quiet, still voice.”
