As political reporters speculate, hypothesize, and speculate again over which rising political star Mitt Romney will pick to be his running mate, an unlikely voice has jumped into the fray to support Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal for the role: the Louisiana Democratic Party.

“Since Bobby Jindal has done such a tremendous job wreaking havoc on Louisiana’s children, working families and teachers, the Louisiana Democratic Party today threw its full support behind Jindal for the GOP Vice Presidential nomination,” says a press release put out Wednesday.

“The Louisiana Democratic Party encourages Bobby Jindal to go after his national ambitions, but for the first time not at the expense of the people of Louisiana. While analysts call him a long shot, the LDP believes Jindal should resign immediately and leave Louisiana for the GOP Vice Presidential campaign trail to shore up his chances with Mitt ‘Say Anything to Get Elected’ Romney.”

“Given that both Jindal and Romney will say or do anything to get elected, we believe they would be a match made in GOP hypocrisy heaven,” the press release concludes.

The issue, said LDP Communications Director James Hallinan, lies primarily with Jindal’s education policies. The governor is currently attempting to push through a primary and secondary education overhaul.

“We felt it very important to get the message out that we’re very supportive of Governor Jindal’s run for Vice President, as long as he immediately resigns as governor so the folks in Louisiana can get back to putting things back together,” said Hallinan.

“We feel like this is a perfect compromise — the governor can go after the vice presidency on the GOP side … and Louisiana can get back to focusing on real education reform.”

“It’s good to know that there’s still a Democrat party in Louisiana, and that they still have the confidence of Obama,” said Jindal Political Advisor Timmy Teepell in response. “After having failed to recruit a single serious candidate in any of the statewide races last year, I thought they had packed up and moved out of town.”
