The Jets did much more than simply trade for a backup quarterback when they acquired Tim Tebow from the Broncos last month. They got a cultural phenomenon.

Tebow was one of six sports figures, including Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, to be named to TIME magazine’s ninth annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. The list is comprised of “people who inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world.”

Tebow is among a group that includes authors, politicians, artists, comedians, actors and activists. Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Warren Buffett, Stephen Colbert, Matt Lauer, Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy, recording artist Rihanna and Saturday Night Live actress Kristen Wiig are also on the list. (Interestingly enough, Giants QB Eli Manning will be working with Rihanna and Wiig when he hosts SNL on May 5th).
