Obama on gay marriage: Is he a reformed bigot or a liar?

Font Size:

Not that he can’t be both. But if it’s such a big deal that he’s finally making a statement one way or the other about gay marriage — one that doesn’t hem and haw about how his opinion is “evolving” — he has to be at least one of those two things. If you’re in favor of gay marriage and you think anybody who isn’t is a bigot, then Obama was a bigot until yesterday. If you’re in favor of gay marriage and you think Obama has secretly agreed with you the whole time, then Obama is a liar.

Which is it?

Well, it beats talking about the economy. Beats talking about gas prices. Beats talking about unemployment. The “war on women” distraction didn’t work, the “Romney’s dog” distraction didn’t work, the Bin Laden victory lap didn’t work… Hell, now Obama’s enablers at the Washington Post are doing in-depth investigative reporting on Romney’s high-school pranks. We’re still six months out, and they’ve already run out of tricks.

I’m starting to enjoy this.

P.S. And in case you’re wondering why this is happening now, other than the fact that nothing else is working: $$$.

P.P.S. Elliott Abrams on how Obama’s support for gay marriage keeps evolving back and forth, depending on the circumstances: “To paraphrase John Kerry, he was for it before he was against it before he was for it again.”

P.P.P.S. Ace of Spades on Obama’s latest gutsy call: Exactly one day after disowning his previous position on gay marriage, Barack Obama running ads attacking his previous position on gay marriage. Once again, it’s Past Obama vs. Present Obama.
