Suggestions for ‘Day one: Part three’

Mitt Romney is out with a new ad titled, “Day One: Part Two,” that continues on the theme of announcing things he plans to do on his first day in office.

It is unclear whether a sequel was planned all along, or if the new ad merely consists of things he was criticized for not including in the first ad.

Here’s the script. I’ll discuss more below:

VIDEO TEXT: “What would a Romney Presidency be like?”

VOICEOVER: “What would a Romney Presidency be like?”

VIDEO TEXT: “Day 01”

VOICEOVER: “Day one, President Romney announces deficit reductions, ending the Obama era of big government, helping secure our kids’ futures.”

VIDEO TEXT: “End Obama era of Big Government”

VOICEOVER: “President Romney stands up to China on trade and demands they play by the rules.”

VIDEO TEXT: “Make China Play By The Rules”

VOICEOVER: “President Romney begins repealing job-killing regulations that are costing the economy billions.”

VIDEO TEXT: “Repeal Job-killing Regulations”

VOICEOVER: “That’s what a Romney Presidency will be like.”

MITT ROMNEY: “I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.”

Like the first ad, this is well produced. It looks good, aesthetically. From a messaging perspective, the implication, of course, is that he hits the ground running. He is a man of action. Americans like this, and people desperate for an immediate change will especially like this.

The “part 2” thing drew some predictable mockery from the chattering classes, though. For example, White House Correspondent Jared Rizzi tweeted: “I hope we eventually have enough of the Romney Day One ads to cobble together a decent season of ’24.'” Most of this was in good fun.

Speaking of fun, here’s a suggestion for Romney: If he plans to continue this theme of things he will do on his first day, why not throw in something fun and outrageous?

Here’s one example we’ve been spitballing around the office that he might consider: “On my first day, I will end ObamaCare, make China play by the rules, and ride a Bengal tiger around the White House. I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.”

Yeah, probably a bad idea…
