Illinois Republican State Rep. Mike Bost exploded in a furious rage Tuesday afternoon after Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan demanded a hurried, unannounced vote on a pension reform proposal.

Bost angrily threw papers in the air, punched at them, and screamed his irritation to surrounding delegates.

“Total power in one person’s hands [is] not the American way!” Bost yelled, slamming Madigan. “These damned bills, coming at us all the damned time! They come out here at the last second! And I gotta figure out how to vote for my people! … You should be ashamed of yourselves! I’m sick of it!”

“Every year! We give power to one person! And it was not made that way in the [state] constitution! He was here when it was written!”

Bost explained himself Thursday on WLUP-FM radio’s Pete McMurry Show.

“You get frustrated the way Illinois politics goes,” he said, adding that he was surprised by “the amount of people who have contacted me since, that have said, ‘you know what, that is how we feel.’”
