Emma Stone was awarded the first Trailblazer Award at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday. The upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man” star was recognized as “one of the most enduring and captivating actresses of our generation.”

After identifying Hollywood icons such as Charlie Chaplin and the Beatles as her own personal trailblazers during her acceptance speech, Stone offered up a word of advice to young adults watching the show.

“Continue to harness your own originality and what makes you unique ’cause I know that when you’re a teenager — sometimes when you’re an adult — what sets you apart can sometimes feels like a burden and it’s not,” said Stone. “A lot of the time, it’s what makes you great.”

The actress, whose latest blockbuster successes include her Golden Globe-nominated performance in “Easy A” and recent hit “The Help,” was not always a glamour girl.

“I sucked my thumb until I was 11, so I had this expander in,” Stone told Elle magazine in 2011.

She was awkward, had braces, and suffered from childhood anxiety, she said. However, Stone’s current status as the latest Revlon cover girl with a long list of Blockbuster hits at just 23 years old proves her very own statement: what sets you apart can make you great.
