Lanny Davis unloads on Obama

Just when you thought the day couldn’t get any worse for Obama, another Clinton ally has stopped to kick him when he’s down. Earlier today, Lanny Davis — the man who served as President Bill Clinton’s special counsel — unloaded on the president for his inability to keep his underlings in check — and for the increasingly frequent instances of backstabbing from the administration against those it should treat as friends.

Davis didn’t mince words:

“You have vicious people who are working for the president — not the president [himself] — who are saying that Corey [sic] Booker — one of the great supporters of President Obama’s policies — is ‘dead’ because he’s giving the president good advice, disagreeing with the Kool-Aid drinking people in the campaign who think the way to win the presidency is to trash the other guy rather than to defend your own guy’s record.”

“[W]hy would they want to create enemies, or depict people as enemies, who are their friends?”

From Bill Clinton to Ed Rendell, it’s hard not to notice that Hillary Clinton loyalists are undermining Obama. This, by the way, isn’t the first time Davis has crossed Team Obama. He  recently wrote a column titled, “Cory Booker got it right.”

The slowly rising voices of dissent from mainstream Democrats against the Obama brand — not against him as a leader or a man, but his administration and re-election team — may signal many things. One thing it certainly doesn’t signal is a quiet, blissful summer for this embattled president. That’s quite surprising considering the nearly invincible aura that’s surrounded Obama for most of this year.
