Gutfeld rips ‘relic of a dying era’ Howard Dean over Netroots Nation remarks

On Saturday at the liberal Netroots Nation 2012 conference in Providence, R.I., former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean told an audience that the Republican Party under the leadership of its presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney wanted to take the country back to the 1850s. He suggested that the GOP was similar to Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

That raised the ire of Fox News “The Five” co-host Greg Gutfeld, who said Dean, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was like the statues of ancient Greece — not that good, but relevant only because of longevity.

“So Saturday, I went to the museum and checked out all the Greek statues from 200 to 300 B.C.,” Gutfeld said. “They were naked. I realize the sculptures weren’t good at all. And the only reason why they are revered is because they’re old. Then it dawned on me the sculptors were pervs trying to get models out of their togas and time, not purpose created the status. It’s just porn, which brings me to another relic of a dying era — Howard Dean. Dean, he most annoying M.D. since Patch Adams, spoke at Netroots Nation on Saturday. In case you don’t know what that is, Netroots is like a Star Trek convention if you replace Star Trek with irritable bowel syndrome.” (SEE ALSO: Dean compares Romney to Ahmadinejad)

After he aired the clip from Netroots Nation, Gutfeld said it indicated that many Democrats adhered to “a toxic perspective” of the country.

“Oh Howard, remember when you were relevant?” Gutfeld said. “Now your perspective is so quaint, so old-fashioned, so 1850s — which is why as long as the left keeps pushing division, then the more likely Mitt is going to win, for America is sick of seeing its identity split into different factions all the time. Dean maybe just handed Mitt Romney his message: ‘Obama seeks to divide, but I seek to unite. I don’t see black, white or Hispanic. I just see red, white and blue.’ That message is poison to the left for it’s their message in reverse. The left doesn’t see America. They only see separate identity demanding status. It’s a toxic perspective that ultimately eats itself alive, which is why it belongs in a museum with those other dead ideas.”
