Burger King is ready to help you celebrate summer with some classic American barbecue favorites and a new original desert.

A bacon sundae of vanilla soft serve ice cream, chocolate fudge, caramel and topped off with bacon crumbles toppings and a strip of bacon acts as the cherry on top for a sweet and salty ending.  The dessert sundae has a whopping 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar.

The dessert first started in Nashville, Tenn. earlier this year and the rest of the limited-time barbecue goodies “are Burger King’s latest push to win back customers with a revived menu and revers sliding market share, an effort that started soon after the company was taken private by the private equity firm 3G Capital in late 2010,” the Associated Press reports.

Other items on the limited-time summer menu include barbeque burgers or sandwiches with flavors from Memphis, Texas or Carolina — depending on where your barbeque loyalty lies.

3G Capital intends to take Burger King public on the New York Stock Exchange later this month.

This has been a year of menu expansion and variation for the second-largest burger chain with items like fruit smoothies, snack wraps, and salads.  The creations were introduced in order to reach a broader range of customers who prefer healthier or more eccentric options.

Even staples of the Burger King menu like french fries and the Whopper, have been updated as part of the company’s efforts to improve food quality. The fast food chain is trying to highlight it’s latest ingredients by replacing the tagline,“Have It Your Way” to “Taste Is King.”

Other fast food chains like Wendy’s and Taco Bell have taken a page out of Burger King’s book and revamped their menus by improving ingredients or created innovative options in order to keep up with higher-end competition from smaller chains.
