Justin Bieber was all smiles Wednesday at a signing for his new album in New York, seemingly unfazed by the prospect of spending six months in jail for assaulting a photographer.
Investigations into the teen sensation’s alleged brawl with a photographer were completed by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and handed over to the District Attorney’s office on Tuesday, TMZ reported.
On May 28, Bieber, 18, allegedly got into a physical altercation with a photographer outside a suburban shopping center in Calabasas, Calif. The Canadian singer was leaving a movie theater with his girlfriend Selena Gomez, 19.
The paparazzo, Jose Sarros, called the police and told them that Bieber had struck him in the face. The couple had already left by the time the police arrived. The sheriff’s office has been unable to get in touch with Bieber about the incident.
The D.A. will review the case to decide if the star is to face criminal prosecution.
If Bieber is charged and convicted of misdemeanor battery he could face up to six months jail time.
Bieber has been out of the country for several weeks on a promotional tour, but returned a few days ago in time for the release of his latest album, “Believe.”
It is common for police to refer high-profile cases to prosecutors.
