Former Speaker of the House and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich spoke about his love of animals and why he lost to Governor Mitt Romney in the Republican Presidential primary.

Gingrich detailed his fascination with zoos and animals — especially elephants — during an interview with Yahoo News. Gingrich explained, “Elephants are among my favorites, partly because I’m Republican and partly because I’m big.  Elephants make me feel like I’m the right size.  They’re very smart animals.”

When asked what went wrong in his run at the presidency, Gingrich cited his fundraising deficiencies.  Speaking about Romney, Gingrich said, “In the end, he had, I think, sixteen billionaires and we had one.”

As the Blaze points out, Gingrich’s one billionaire, Sheldon Adelson, recently joined the Romney team and has made considerable financial contributions to the Romney campaign.
