In the top of the seventh inning with two outs, Yankees left fielder Dewayne Wise dived into the crowd and caught a ball to end the inning, third base umpire Chris DiMuro ruled.

Replays after the game ended made it is clear, however, that Wise was not in possession of the ball. It actually hit off the player’s glove, bounced off the stands and was caught by Vinnie Pellegrino, a fan from West Islop, New York, MLB.com’s Cut 4 reports.

“I went out on the ball and saw the ball into his glove in his stands. He disappeared into the stands, and I believed that the ball was in his glove. In hindsight, I should have asked him to show me the ball, since he fell into the stands and out of my line of vision,” DiMuro said.
