Days after Katie Holmes blindsided her husband of five years, Tom Cruise, by filing for divorce, The Sun reported that Holmes believes that she is “under surveillance by private investigators hired by Scientologists.”

Holmes reportedly asked her security detail to take photos of six alleged spies and report them to the police. When confronted by the actress’ team, the men responded that they were “waiting for someone off the bus.”

Holmes’ recent alleged run-in with Scientology spies is only the tip of the iceberg in regards to why the couple split. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cruise’s Scientology beliefs were a major reason Holmes filed for divorce, especially now that their 6-year-old daughter, Suri, has reached the age where the church may start to have a larger role in her life.

Even News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch has thrown in his opinion on the split, tweeting: “Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people.”

Murdoch has received criticism over Twitter for his remarks, but will “stick to his story.”

The Church of Scientology has not yet responded to a request for comment.

UPDATE: The Church of Scientology’s International counsel, Gary Soter, said in an emailed statement to The Daily Caller that: “There is no truth whatsoever to the TMZ.com report (or any other report) that the Church of Scientology has sent anyone to follow or surveil Katie Holmes.”
